The Teaching and Learning Seminar provides Lang First Year Fellows with practical and metacritical tools to articulate, develop, and strengthen their teaching, mentoring, and facilitation practice. Reading and thinking widely together across the fields of critical pedagogy, the philosophy of education, curriculum theory, critical university studies, and New School history, Fellows will work to design their own personalized workshop curricula to support new first year students transition effectively to college and to navigate the intellectual, creative, professional, and institutional opportunities and challenges that it presents. Throughout, Fellows will reflect on the ethical and emotional dimensions of student experience and academic life, and will develop collective strategies for creating meaningful communities of care and cultures of belonging at Lang, TNS, and beyond.
