This course offers an intensive survey of the work of Frantz Fanon, a philosopher, psychologist, revolutionary militant, and among the most significant voices in the anti-colonial movement and the black radical tradition. Our survey will include the poetic Black Skin/White Masks, the incendiary Wretched of the Earth, the controversial A Dying Colonialism, and the polemical Toward an African Revolution -- each text giving us a different view of its author. We will conclude the semester with a brief look at some of the commentary on Fanon, from anti-capitalist, black radical, feminist, afro-pessimist, and decolonial perspectives.
