Social Sci Research in Action
Spring 2026
Taught By: David Plotke
Section: A

CRN: 17339

Credits: 1 TO 4

Students take this course for two terms, with the permission of the instructor. Only students accepted into the Lang Social Science program may enroll. In the first term, they work in a government agency, civic organization, or firm in an area of interest to them. They work with that organization or group and learn about its operations. They develop questions linking their internship with further research. In the second term, they carry out a social science research project related to their internship and produce a research paper. Throughout this process they work with a Ph.D. student with whom they meet regularly. They also participate in several workshops on social science methods. This course does not have a fixed time because both the fall internship and fall and spring research proceed via activities and meetings that students help to schedule.
