Culture and Cognition
Fall 2022
Taught By: Lawrence Hirschfeld
Section: A
CRN: 13960
Credits: 4
Our experience of the world is shaped by the culture in which we live, on one hand, and by the nature of our mind, on the other. The exploration of culture and the exploration of the mind are the realms of two disciplines, anthropology and psychology, whose methods and theory unfortunately often clash. Our goal in this seminar is to examine these theories and methods and to explore ways in which the uneasy relationship between anthropology and psychology might be improved. In doing so, we can hope to provide deeper insights into the nature and meaning of human experience.
