This hands-on production course explores cinematography as an essential tool for both fiction and non-fiction filmmakers. Students will learn in the field techniques used in documentary filmmaking, video journalism, and online content, as well as essential lighting, camera movement, and blocking for narrative film. Through in-class exercises—both on location and in the studio—students will develop their technical and artistic skills. By the end of the course, they will complete two major projects that showcase their unique visual language. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course.
