Field of Visions is a production based course in which students will explore cinematic modes of narrative through the lens of visual storytelling. In the ever more visual society that we live in, this class will balance active production with an analytic framework that will inform students filmmaking practice and understanding. Over the course of the semester there will be a series of in-class hands-on camera exercises, film screenings, homework assignments and group based work. Topics covered in this course will encompass scripted, non-fiction, and more experimental approaches to production, including techniques for creating dynamic films on a shoestring budget. The class will culminate in each student producing a short film demonstrating skills developed and expanded over the course of the semester. Field of Vision will also incorporate guest speakers and field trips to connect students to the vibrant film community that exists in New York City. It is recommended that students complete Screen Foundations or have demonstrably commensurate experience in the basics of camera and editing prior to registering for this course.
