[Screenwriting]: Character and Craft

Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Culture & Media

Liberal Arts
Undergraduate Course
Character and Craft
Fall 2025
Taught By: Talia Lugacy
Section: A

CRN: 18115

Credits: 4

This course offers a non-formulaic approach to the screenwriting discipline. The emphasis is on character, structure, effective dialogue techniques and writing for the actor and the camera. Using weekly writing exercises and working with written scenes "on their feet" in a rehearsal setting, students learn both the pragmatic and the creative aspects of sustaining tension, and crafting stories and characters for film. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course.
