[Post-Production]: Motion Graphics Fundamentals
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Culture & Media
CRN: 17899
Credits: 4
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of motion graphics using Adobe After Effects, with a focus on 2D animation, compositing, and visual effects. Students learn core animation principles and practical workflows for creating dynamic visual content. Through hands-on projects, students develop skills in animated typography, masking, morphing, looping, compositing, pseudo-3D, frame-by-frame animation, and character rigging. Assignments include a character walk cycle, animated infographics, and a visual effects project using live-action footage. By the end of the course, students will have a foundational understanding of motion design and a portfolio of motion graphics projects. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course. Basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is recommended.
