[Sound]: The Sound Edit
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Culture & Media
CRN: 18201
Credits: 4
This course provides an overview of the post-production process, emphasizing the role of sound in crafting an edit. Through exercises, case-studies, hands-on demonstrations, and individual and collaborative projects, students will refine your editing skills and explore the function of sound across fiction, non-fiction, and experimental work. Students will practice picture editing, learn sound post-production workflows, and explore the basics of audio recording. The goal is to sharpen perceptions of sound and develop a language for discussing it, particularly its relationship to the moving image. Students will gain a technical foundation in designing and shaping an acoustic environment for a filmmaking practice. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course.
