Experiments in Docufiction

Taught By: James Kienitz Wilkins
Section: A

CRN: 16665

Credits: 4

A course exploring the complicated legacy of the “docufiction” film (the blend of documentary representation with fictional simulation), considering whether it is a subset of documentary, a recognizable genre, or a formal mode that covers a diverse range of experiments in cinema. This course involves extensive viewing of films along with discussion of readings, student writing, and the development of a final creative project (movie, text or multimedia) incorporating ideas and techniques drawn from the course. It is strongly recommended that students complete both Editing and Cinematography (taken spring 2025 or prior) or Screen Foundations (taken fall 2025 or later) or have demonstrably commensurate experience prior to registering for this course.[Track S]
