This course is an introduction to acting and the actor's creative process for both theater and film. Through physical observations, monologues and finally scene work, students will learn the basic vocabulary of acting and delve into a range of approaches. Students will also develop the ability to read a text through the lens of the actor; form an understanding of character and develop the ability to listen, respond authentically, and work both individually and collaboratively via new virtual platforms. This course is one of the required foundational courses for Theater majors and minors and will meet synchronously. For the course, the students need only a laptop with a working camera or an external webcam (no preference) and a reliable high-speed internet connection.
