Creating a Production Company: Missions, Models, Methods
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: The Arts
CRN: 19456
Credits: 4
In the American theater and in independent film and new media, most work is created in small companies. The companies may be for profit or not-for-profit; artist driven, finance driven or both; resident, roving; long-lived or brand new. But they are all driven by a vision and follow a path to be sustainable. In this course, students will learn about the variety of current and historical producing models, the visions that animate them and the practicalities that sustain them. Guest speakers and field trips will introduce students to representatives from a variety of companies and to the work they create. This course fulfills an elective requirement for Theater majors and minors.
