CRN: 15736
Credits: 0 TO 4
Are you interested in teaching in the Arts & Education field? The Arts in Education: I HAVE A DREAM Seminar/Practicum provides students with hands-on experience engaging children through theater, dance, music, and visual arts education. The course also explores how arts education can foster environmental literacy in elementary school students, inviting students to consider creative ways of connecting artistic practice, environmental awareness, and learning. Along with fieldwork at the East Harlem I Have a Dream Program, Lang students participate in a weekly Tuesday seminar focused on an in-depth exploration of the various fields of arts education in elementary schools. The seminar provides a space for reflection on students’ activities and interactions at the I Have a Dream Program, as well as for collaborative planning, curriculum development, and assessment of the Afterschool Arts Program. Through the integration of arts education and environmental literacy, students consider how creative practice can help children develop awareness of their environments, communities, and relationships to the natural world. This course fulfills an elective requirement for Lang Theater majors and minors.
