Acting Shakespeare
Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: The Arts
CRN: 13595
Credits: 4
Performed around the globe, Shakespeare continues to be transformed by actors, directors and diverse communities who make the plays their own. In this course, we will concern ourselves with these essential questions: How do Shakespeare’s plays work in performance in an array of mediums including: theater, film, and new media? How did Shakespeare collaboratively stage the plays with actors four centuries ago? How do actors and directors today perform and transform Shakespeare’s texts? And what generative themes transcend performance choices? Students will also engage in the challenge of Acting Shakespeare through work on sonnets, monologues, and final scenes. This course fulfills an elective requirement for Theater majors and minors.
