In this seminar we explore under a critical lens, questions around migration and climate, from theories of mobility, climate and environmental justice to public policies and international environmental law, we analyze different case studies connected to resilient communities, global governance of migration, development, gender and mobility, environmental conflict among other relevant cases. This course explores the dynamic relationship between migration, climate and global political economy, and how current environmental policies might affect the conditions of people at the local and at the international level. We ask in this course, what are effective responses to mobility and climate? How can we understand current social environmental movements in relation to mobility? What type of responses are needed in the light of the current environmental and humanitarian crisis? This class includes guest speakers who specialize in their research and/or activism on the connection between migration and climate, gender and forced displacement, the connection and analysis of environmental policies and its effectiveness in providing solutions, and an accurate analysis of the multiple crises we are facing.
