This five-week course explores the work of legendary filmmaker Wong Kar Wai, as part of this semester's auteur series. We will explore Wong's canon in this course through multiple academic disciplines, such as Film Studies, Formalist Film Theory, and Psychoanalysis. Students will discuss and deconstruct narrative elements and the social context of these films, while paying particular attention to filmic elements such as mise en scene, cinematography, editing and sound design. Wong's films to be discussed in the course include the following: "Days of Being Wild", "Chungking Express", "In the Mood for Love" and "Happy Together".
