While French cinema has long been seen as an alternative to the more dominant boxoffice success of Hollywood cinema. The course considers what makes French cinema particularly “French” and how it attracts specific audiences abroad, in particular audiences in the United States. We also look at how Hollywood is gradually transforming the French film industry. Film discussions and presentations are complemented by a wide-range of readings and assigments. Prerequisite: intermediate-high to advanced proficiency is required.
