An Intermediate graduate course designed for students interested in furthering the development of their oral and written proficiency in Japanese. Students will examine the historical development of Japanese major cities, the impact of urbanization on social norms, and the role of media and popular culture in shaping urban identities. Key topics include urbanization and architecture, social dynamics, food culture, art and creative expressions, modern technology and global influences. Through lectures, discussions, and multimedia resources, students will gain a nuanced understanding of Japan's urban culture and its global relevance. Proficiency: intermediate proficiency in Japanese is required.
