Organized around the three themes of Design & Prototyping, Audio & Video Production, and Management & Communication, this course looks at the character of different media forms, the relationship between forms, and guidelines for choosing which combination is best for a given communications project and impactful storytelling. Concentrating on critical design thinking, combining effective communication with engaging user experiences and innovative use of media, students tackle a variety of design problems. Through a series of projects, students apply basic design principles and prototyping skills, work with digital audio and images, work together in groups and develop persuasive presentations. Student designers focus on the primary concepts of digital media making, choosing media formats and channels strategically, and learning to exchange feedback in structured critiques. The goal of this course is to help students build a foundation of design thinking, skills, and processes that can be applied throughout the program as well as their careers.

Open to: All university graduate degree seeking students. Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors by permission of the MA Media Management program.
