Courageous Conversations
Spring 2023
Taught By: Sujatha Jesudason
Section: A

CRN: 14022

Credits: 3

In an increasingly diverse and multiracial world, the skills to have difficult and courageous conversations with friends, family, coworkers, and colleagues is a critical and core competency. In this class, students will explore how difference and power manifest in their workplaces, activism, and projects and learn and practice the skills they need to work effectively and collaboratively across race and other intersectional differences. They will increase their social and emotional intelligence, resilience, and risk assessment skills and practice calling others into partnership and collaboration. Designed for people who have been historically and structurally privileged and oppressed, this course offers a framework for the courageous conversations needed to skillfully make our workplaces, social networks, and social movements more inclusive and equitable, where everybody feels like they belong and where we are all actively working to dismantle racism. This in-person and experiential learning-based class meets on a shortened schedule from January 24 to March 11. The weekly classes meet on Tuesdays from 4-6:40 pm and two Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm on February 4 and March 11, 2023.
