"This course expands on the material studied in Environmental Technology 1 to include a breadth of environmental technology issues. Course content includes topics of daylighting and electric lighting design principles and energy consumption, acoustic design principles and material performance, fire safety, building systems and energy performance. The class is divided into three three-week modules. Each module is dedicated to explore a topical theme through both theoretical and technical investigations. Sessions later in the semester will be devoted to hands-on feedback of student studio projects. You will explore the theoretical frameworks, scientific principles, and related technologies for daylighting, electric lighting, acoustics, and building systems through provided readings, observations, and measurements. These learnings will be synthesized through three small design projects. Real world experiences of faculty members in their professional practices will highlight and demonstrate how these concepts are implemented and how problem-solving is approached, leading to successful architectural projects.
