Thesis Exhibition
Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 10575
Credits: 3
Group exhibitions are a critical component of a professional artistic career—especially for emerging artists navigating artist-run spaces, alternative venues, and institutional contexts. Anchored in the MFA Thesis Exhibition, this required course provides graduating students with both practical experience and critical reflection on the processes, roles, and responsibilities involved in presenting work publicly. The students will collaborate closely with faculty and exhibition staff, gaining firsthand experience in communicating individual artistic intent and negotiating the dynamics of installing and presenting work for a group exhibition . Through one-to-one studio visits, group discussions with exhibition staff, and written statements, students will articulate and refine their artistic strategies to ensure the thoughtful, professional and effective presentation of their work. Serving on committees, students will participate in decision-making related to exhibition planning, installation, and the creation of exhibition materials and content for online presentation. Assessment will be based on professionalism; the realization and innovation demonstrated in a student’s presentation of their completed artwork(s) for the MFA Thesis Exhibition; and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with their cohort, faculty and exhibition staff.
