The Professional Practice course aims to provide an overview of the Fashion Industry, through debate and seeks to examine the professional environment and its various components in which the fashion designer needs to understand. Visiting professionals will lecture and discuss areas from copyright, contracts, legal terms etc., PR, branding, fashion show production, show casting, magazines/journalism. Other speakers will include stylists, historians, curators, and designers both from independent to corporations, international sales agents, business management, buyers, retail and e-commerce. Students will be encouraged to critique, analyze these areas of practice to gain a deeper understanding of how the industry works and be aware of its shifting patterns. It is to encourage them to understand their own position and to provide them with the knowledge of how to survive both commercially and creatively through understanding the industry as a whole. Its aims are to close the gap between Industry and Education by enabling the students to engage with the diverse range of guest speakers, giving the students the opportunity to assess their own future position within the industry. Resume review and Designer Bio development will further prepare the students for a career beyond graduation.
