This seminar looks at fashion made by Indigenous designers from across Canada and the United States. We explore the intersections of ancestor Indigenous fashion arts with contemporary fashion practices, highlighting both continuity and innovation of Native design languages. Through discussion, analysis, and creative research, the course explores how Indigenous fashion is both a medium of cultural expression, a site of political and social engagement, while contemplating the growing role of Indigenous artists in the global fashion landscape.
