Through selected readings, lectures, and class discussions this course will examine aspects of contemporary photography, the photographic process, practice and theory. This class will attempt to identify and interpret methodologies from which artist utilize the medium of photography, the manifestation of the artistic idea and theory into the contemporary artistic landscape, positioning ones artistic career, utilizing multiple strategies. We will discuss the global perspective of a photographic career. Strong emphasis will also be place on applying this knowledge to the individual’s practice within the context of contemporary art/photographic discourse. Students will develop an understanding of the requirements for an exhibition and will submit a proposal for their Thesis exhibition. Students will research and present their proposal for an application to have an exhibition as well as a 20 minute PowerPoint presentation, printed images and a discussion on their own in preparation for the MFA examination.
