This course introduces students to geospatial technologies as critical tools for analyzing, visualizing, and supporting participatory projects and community-based research in urban and regional contexts. Emphasizing the role of GIS in socially engaged practice, the course focuses on open-source desktop and web-based platforms to explore urban conditions and design spatial interventions.Students will develop practical skills in accessing and harnessing open data, building interactive maps, and creating visual tools that empower local communities and support advocacy, planning, and policy-making. Through hands-on exercises and project-based learning, the course equips students with the technical and conceptual foundations needed to use geospatial technologies in support of equitable and inclusive urban change.
