This course examines contemporary art practices that engage with sustainability, ecofeminism, and environmental justice in a global context. It traces the historical development of eco-art since the 1970s and introduces students to innovative artistic methods such as zero-waste production, bio-art, and digital sustainability. The course challenges students to think critically about art’s role in addressing ecological and social crises, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches that integrate art history, critical theory, curatorial practice in relation to studio practice.

Open to: All university undergraduate degree students, juniors and seniors; others by permission. Pre-requisite(s): first-year university writing course and at least two prior history or methods courses in art, media, film, or visual culture. One of these courses should be 3000-level.
