This course serves as the culmination of the Making and Meaning trajectory in which students engage in critical and creative methodologies as research practice. Students will self-direct through a single project inspired by previous work in Making and Meaning or in a new project pre-approved by their instructor. In this studio students will finalize their capstone projects and get them ready for the Thesis Exhibition to take place at the end of the semester. It is expected that the work done during both semesters 5 and 6 will culminate and advance the results from a student’s Making and Meaning sequence, required program specific courses, and those courses found in the pathway. This project will reflect substantial research and evidence of critical thinking, as well as proficiency in the technical aspects of producing the elements to be included in the exhibition, whether these are prototypes or actual finalized objects. The project should be accompanied by a written capstone thesis (10-15 pages) that supports the objectives and potential outcomes of the project in relation to the relevant project context. The class will involve also a close collaboration with the curator of the exhibition in considering the best options for the presentation of the project to the public, as well as participating in the hands-on installation of the exhibition and the production of the exhibition catalogue when applicable.
