This course explores how to design for a fixed set of images and words that are meant to last for a long period of time. Discussions on how to interpret and structure content, how to think conceptually about form and content, how to think about the context of the book within an archive, and how to think about the design of archives themselves (both physical and digital) will be interwoven with studio exercises and book projects.

Note: this course was previously offered under the title Book Design. Open to: Bachelors degree in Communication Design majors, juniors and seniors only. Pre-requisite(s): PUCD 2025 Core 1: Typography Studio, or PSAM 1070 CD Foundations: Typography, or PACD 1100 Core 1: Typography, or (PAGD 1140 Digital Layout + PAGD 1060 Typography 1.).
