This course examines how designers use signs and symbols to communicate meaning systematically. Drawing upon past learning in typography and interaction, students will learn the relationship between typography and mark making. From emojis and brand experiences to wayfinding and digital applications, students will interrogate how signs and symbols create distinct visual languages serving localized or globalized methods of communication. Note: this course was previously offered under the title Identity Design.

Open to: Bachelors or Associates degree in Communication Design majors, Communication Design minors, and Fashion Communication minors; others by permission of the program. Pre-requisite(s): PUCD 2130 Core 2: Typography or PSAM 1070 CD Foundations: Typography or PACD 1100 Core 1: Typography.
