In Print/Out, class meetings will alternate between 1) field trips to printshops, galleries, museums, and artist’s studios; and 2) the group production and distribution of a single, professional-grade, screenprinted edition. Students will break into groups. Each group will alternate roles throughout the semester to tackle different aspects of the production, marketing and publishing process. Students collectively will produce the edition from start to finish, adhering to professional standards in the field. The artist whose work is to be editioned will be a student enrolled at Parsons (though not someone enrolled in the class). The artist will be chosen collectively through a nomination and an anonymized voting process. The students will work with the artist to manage the creation and division of the edition, in which the artist will receive half of the prints. In addition to the editioning project, students will create an artist’s book documenting their experiences on the field trips.
