Radical Publishing and Risograph Lab
Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 16539
Credits: 3
This course explores publishing as a radical act through the Risograph printing process. Students will experiment with form-making, community-driven projects, and collaborative publishing while engaging with texts by radical thinkers such as bell hooks, James Baldwin, and Jenny Odell. Through hands-on workshops, students will develop prepress skills, including file preparation, color separation, registration, cropping, and binding, while working within the technical constraints of the Risograph printer. Emphasis will be placed on creating high-quality, reproducible prints that challenge conventional narratives and foster shared knowledge. The class will culminate in a collaboratively produced publication, printed and distributed as a reflection of the course’s collective inquiry.
