TouchDesigner
Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 14830
Credits: 3
This class will focus on creating interactive and immersive environments, covering concepts in real-time graphics programming and interaction design, as well as techniques on body-tracking, networking, midi integration, audio-reactive visuals, and projection mapping. Students will learn these techniques using a tool called TouchDesigner, which is a node-based visual programming language for real-time interactive multimedia content. It's been used by artists, programmers, creative coders, and software designers to create performances, installations, and mixed media works. Throughout this course, students will build their conceptual and technical skills using TouchDesigner as a tool for rapid prototyping, creative, critical, aesthetic exploration, and expression. We will explore these concepts through case studies that include large-scale environments for medical professionals to alleviate stress/burnout, for patients in clinical studies aiding in neuroscience research on brain recovery, interventions in public spaces, and commercial applications.
