Parsons School of Design: School of Art, Media, and Tech
CRN: 8715
Credits: 3
In this course, students will exercise comprehensive design practice and iteration, traversing areas such as visual design, storytelling, design thinking, UI/UX, prototyping, and interaction design. Across these practices, the course investigates data as a material for design. Students will engage through hands-on exercises with real data to gain a deeper understanding of how data is created and how it can shape interactions and representations. Students will develop data-driven products and services that can range from the applied and functional to the critical and poetic. The class will be accompanied by relevant readings and presentations from design theory and the sociopolitical and cultural context. In-class conversations allow students to develop critical thinking and theoretical understanding and show their unique insights of discussed topics and practices.
