A Connected Practice
Fall 2024
Taught By: Anne Gaines
Section: A

Credits: 3

This course takes a heart-centered approach, and prioritizes connections, ease and flow for the development of your research, creative practice and person. This course is designed to complement your studio, thesis, or capstone core course of study. Expand your primary research by experimenting with embodied practices. Pilot your ideas, build community for your work and create a heart led, lifelong transformative practice. There are three phases in the course: expansion, contemplation, and activation. During the expansion phase, embodied practices and theories from various disciplines such as quantum physics, neuroscience, philosophy, and education are introduced to build connection, presence, and power. The contemplation phase involves methods to let go of what you already know and allow for surprise and discovery from unexpected sources. The activation phase is focused on community building, identifying systems of support, and piloting your ideas or practice in the world. Theories and methods introduced and practiced include scholars and scientists; Dara Culhane, the HearthMath Institute, bell hooks, the Huberman Lab, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Otto C. Scharmer, and René Stettler amongst others. Deepen your research with your own systems coherence, build a long-term vision and pilot your short-term goals. Let the super power of your heart support the innate creator in you.
