In this advanced design studio, students will have the opportunity to participate in real world communication design projects for clients within Parsons and The New School. The class operates like a small design studio under the creative direction of Lucille Tenazas, Henry Wolf Professor of Communication Design, who will establish project parameters, create design teams and generate initial conceptual approaches for specific projects. Admission to the class is selective, based on a portfolio review and statement of intent. Since the class was created in 2014, students have designed highly visible projects for Parsons and the New School in multiple platforms—from print to digital and applications in social media. This spring, selected students will again be designing the branding system for the annual Parsons Benefit and Parsons Festival. Parsons Benefit honors visionary figures in fashion, technology, and the arts that embody the university’s commitment to creativity, innovation and sustainability. Past recipients have included fashion designers, Tory Burch, Kerby Jean-Raymond and Donna Karan, cultural icons like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna and Pharrell Williams; fashion industry leaders from Macys, Neiman Marcus and Gucci. The event funds student scholarships in art, design and technology, liberal arts, music and social innovation. The Parsons Festival is an annual series of events and exhibitions, highlighting graduating students’ work and achievements across art, design, strategy, architecture, photography, film, technology and more. University Design Students collaborate with each other on the logo and design system with applications in print, web, exhibition graphics and merchandise.   Students are encouraged to explore experimental approaches to projects in print, web and social media platforms. Presentations to clients will be a key component of the class so strategies and approaches in articulating design ideas will be explored. Open to: University Graduate Students and upper level undergraduates in Design and Technology and Communication Design. To apply fill out the University Design Studio Application here.
