Make Your Own Material
Fall 2024
Taught By: Emily Gordin
Section: A

CRN: 14588

Credits: 3

In a global economy of overconsumption and production we need to reexamine the design and use of materials towards a more circular economy. Traditional materials often rely upon extraction and refinement of “natural resources” that can be problematic in nature. As designers, we can challenge ourselves to be active in the exploration of healthier material alternatives, re-thinking materials for a sustainable future. This course will allow students to experiment with biopolymers, biomaterials, and biofabrication to reconsider methods of production. Students will be encouraged to examine how materials connect, integrate, and complement existing tools, equipment, and processes.Open to: all university undergraduates.
