In this elective studio, we’ll ask how the design of retail spaces and experiences can be welcoming and equitable for all. Through the lens of interior design and a focus on retail environments, we will examine what inclusive spaces might look like. In today's fast-paced and digital world, where social interactions have shifted due to lockdowns and social media, how can we inspire human connections? After witnessing shifts in many parts of our living, working, shopping, and entertainment that profoundly affected our social lives, how do we foreground inclusion in our decision-making as designers? Retail will be our testing ground to go beyond designing for accessibility and towards inclusion, as the distinction between 'physical' and 'digital' experiences has merged. Participants will engage with students from other international design schools where similar courses have been completed or are underway and with industry partners by exchanging ideas and expertise.
