This course challenges students to explore the design of collapsible/portable structures that address humanitarian, commercial, recreational, or survival needs. Students will exercise the design process; learn topics relevant to human centric design, such as human factors and ergonomics, as well as methods for targeting design functionality and considerations to ensure users’ needs and desires are thoroughly addressed. Additionally, students will investigate materials and processes that relate to temporary structures and utilize traditional as well as contemporary modeling techniques to thoroughly test and communicate their concepts.
