Through design, we transform ideas into spaces that inspire meaning—this course invites you to roll up your sleeves, work as a team, and turn collective vision into impact. Impact Exhibit is a course for doers and makers. This elective course in exhibition design emphasizes the creation of immersive environments and experiences that advocate for pressing social, cultural, and environmental issues. Building on the research and strategy developed in the fall semester, the spring semester shifts into hands-on, team-based design, build, and installation, drawing on diverse strengths from across Parsons—fabrication, drawing and visualization, graphic communication, and design technology. Students will move from strategy to action, engaging in prototyping, construction, and implementation while developing promotional approaches that communicate their collective vision. Working collaboratively, they will experience the full arc of exhibition design—from concept development and material studies, to fabrication and public engagement—bridging theory with practice in real-world contexts such as public spaces, tradeshows, festivals, or exhibitions. The course culminates in a student-led installation that synthesizes research, collaborative design, making, and advocacy—demonstrating how exhibition design can be a powerful medium to engage audiences, amplify messages, and inspire meaningful change. Students should plan for full participation and sustained commitment throughout the semester, as the success of the installation depends on the collective effort of the team.
