Build Your Own Factory
Parsons School of Design: School of Constructed Env.
CRN: 3418
Credits: 3
More often than not, mass manufacturing technologies rely not on particularly complex or unattainable techniques, but on the optimization of very simple physical forces. This course will allow students to attain first hand understanding of manufacturing processes through the construction of factory technologies at a bench top scale. Students will build prototype machines and fabrication templates to “mass produce” products exploring ways that production methods can be reinvented. The course will be focused on the build of the machinery, templates, and the testing and use of the equipment. Students will be encouraged to examine how processes connect, integrate, and complement existing tools, equipment, and processes.
