Live Project/Temp Environments
Parsons School of Design: Constructed Environments
CRN: 13829
Credits: 3
In this course, Students from SCE (and beyond) will work with community members and/or private sector representatives in a live, real-time setting to research, develop, prototype, and construct a full-scale temporary interior environment. The participants will advocate for an underrepresented community to propose and execute a sharing platform through study, outreach, and collaboration. Engaging with the identified user group and the students' lived experiences will be at the core of the course. As most ephemeral constructions create lots of waste, use materials affecting human health, and often have a large carbon footprint, research into existing and developing alternative approaches will be a significant component of the work. Mocking up, prototyping, and testing at full scale and with healthier materials will be central to actualizing the project. In Spring 2023, we will work with a partner, Pride Live, to research and prototype exhibition ideas for the planned Stonewall National Monument Visitors Center (opening in 2024) and connect with the Heritage of Pride March in June 2023. To register for this class, please complete THIS FORM . Students may be asked to work outside of class time and after the end of the semester to complete the project Mock-Up.
