Section: A

Credits: 3

This interdisciplinary elective explores the bicycle as both a practical tool and a powerful social system, inviting students to look beyond common assumptions of cycling as merely recreation or sustainability to examine its deeper connections to industrialization, colonialism, labor, gender equity, urban planning, and gentrification. Through a blend of design research, critical discussion, and hands-on prototyping, students engage in case studies, fieldwork, and collaborative projects to develop real-world strategies that promote more equitable and sustainable mobility. The course is especially well suited for students interested in design management, systems thinking, and shaping the future of urban life.
