Making Civic Crafts
Spring 2026
Taught By: Otto von Busch
Section: A

CRN: 16910

Credits: 3

This course focuses on how crafts can play an essential part in social empowerment, where making takes place in public spaces and as a form of civic engagement. Using simple hand tools and found materials, we set out to identify and make use of local assets to work in collaboration with the local communities in NYC. Using the basic wood shop at Parsons, we will create our own nomadic tools to move making to the streets, to hack into and complement the urban environment with civic purpose, supporting emergent publics and practices.

Students are required to participate in asynchronous work before the intensive that will be on campus during Spring Break. To register, please email pcp@newschool.edu. Open to: All university undergraduate students.
