In this engaging and hands-on introductory course, students will begin to explore the art and craft of non-ferrous metal work. Participants will explore the fundamental techniques of non-ferrous design and prototyping through individual and group projects. Students will develop an understanding of the structure, behavior, applications and history of non-ferrous metals as a material, as well as learn how to safely operate metalsmithing equipment. This course will teach proper techniques such as sawing, forming, soldering and finishing, as well as wax carving and processing cast pieces that can be applied to accessory and jewelry work. Through a combination of theoretical discussions and practical, hands-on exercises, students will develop the skills necessary to create their own non-ferrous metal objects.
