Creative Directing
Fall 2024
Taught By: Faculty TBA
Section: A

CRN: 17372

Credits: 3

Creative Directors have an ambidextrous role. They might direct a lifestyle magazine, a luxury fashion house, found companies and platforms, curate an art exhibition, or engineer parties and strategies connecting brands to social justice campaigns and new audiences. As a point of political critique and moral accountability, creative directors’ hands are “clean,” implicating the brand or its collaborators as the “authors'' of any given work. The course will combine lectures, discussions, workshops, guest speaker sessions, field trips, and hands-on projects. Individual and group assignments will include developing creative strategies, mood boards, planning a party, designing visual communication materials, and/or creative direction using AI. Students will examine data about audiences, contexts, and identify strategies.
