With the advent of digital manufacturing methods a new paradigm of computational modeling has emerged focused on the programming of complex systems. This is a topical course that mixes analysis of sculpture, prototyping for public places, urban intervention, with the greatly expanding techniques of three-dimensional computer modeling. A series of projects will conclude with preparing an in depth proposal for a public design competition through 3D modeling, parametric design, and rendering. Students will learn to incorporate drawing, 3D printing and additional technologies to develop and expand our art and design concepts. We will explore the wide array of new developments in these fields creating tactile models, drawings and renderings that explore digital to real world connections and material possibilities as they relate to specific sites and communities. The class will be structured around a series of projects as we build both generative & parametric tools as a means to produce three dimensional outcomes that span the definition art and design.
