As a part of the SOF Fashion Product suite, this introductory studio course in the fundamentals of bag design and construction will explore design principles and specialized pattern-making techniques of leathercraft to execute product samples. Students will engage in several bag design projects, underpinned by research, historical context, and concept sketching. Through iterative and parallel design prototyping, students will gain a deeper understanding of their design realizations and advance with a technical skill set and vocabulary. Students will complete the course with physical products, including 2D and 3D portfolio documentation of the process and designed outcomes. Students will also discover the relevance of bags to the fashion industry and how bags can drive sales, break barriers, and forge all-inclusive, user-centric fashion brands embracing various sizes, genders, and users.
