This rigorous and accelerated course explores the fundamentals of the global jewelry industry: concept, design, materiality, and manufacturing. The course will have an industry-based focus, concentrating on foundational tools, techniques, and materials (such as Rhino CAD and Wax) associated with jewelry design, production, and manufacture. Concept exploration, craft, technique, and luxury jewelry will be explored through a series of design and research projects. The course is grounded in the history of and contemporary developments in the global jewelry industry. Students will be expected to perform off-site visits outside of class time to successfully complete research projects. Upon successful completion of the course, students will have fabricated and 3D printed jewelry designs, and have an introductory understanding of creative practice as it relates to global jewelry design.
