Digital Surface Exploration
Fall 2024
Taught By: Elizabeth Torres
Section: A

CRN: 12526

Credits: 3

This course explores digital tools and techniques (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), in tandem with material methods and processes for fabric manipulation and presentation, fostering a creative synthesis of the two. It investigates the vocabulary and techniques of traditional surface and textile design to provide a strong underpinning for developing and manipulating images and colors. Color and trend research are integral to the process. Students will create a library of unique patterns and palettes that can be applied to any surface. As an option, students can research homegrown and commercial solutions to their individual design projects, and transform 2-D designs into 3-D objects and samples. Creation of a formal presentation is the culmination of the course. Students investigate portfolio options including digital and interactive formats, blogs, and printed presentations.

Open to: BFA and AAS in Fashion Design majors only. Pre-requisite(s): PUFD 2230 Visual Communication Studio 1 or PAFD 1000 Design Communication or PAFS 1050 Fashion Technical Drawing.
